Bio

Cyrus Smith, originally hailing from Winnipeg, is an artist now living and working in Berlin.

After graduating from the University of Manitoba with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honors, Smith has been actively participating in numerous group shows at institutions including: Gallery 1.1.1., Plug In ICA, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery. His work has been published in Border Crossings Magazine, Toro Magazine, The National Post, and shown on CBC ‘Artspots’. Smith has been written about in The Globe and Mail and Maclean’s Magazine.

In the studio Smith is producing work at a hyper velocity in a range of media, with his attention focused on painting and installation. He generally works in a large scale, and with subject matter referencing art history, the socio-political sphere, Graffiti, advertising, digital networking, and Pop Culture. 

Aesthetically, Smith’s art has been described as “…sitting in a conversation between a Post-Formalism and Dumpster Pop…” and “...channeling the spirits of Kurt Schwitters and Robert Rauschenburg.”

His work is past of private and public collections including The Canada Council for the Arts and The Province of Manitoba.
