Gurevich Fine Art Welcomes Kyle Herranen

Winnipeg, Manitoba – April 8, 2014 – Gurevich Fine Art is pleased to welcome artist Kyle Herranen to the gallery. Since being named one of Galleries West’s “Who’s Who of Collectable Artists” Herranen has exhibited across Canada with private and public collections in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom including the Mosaic Corporation, the City of Regina. He is currently completing a commission for Canada Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development for Canada House in London, UK.

Based in Regina, Saskatchewan the installation and sculpture artist's striking work explores his contrasting talents of woodworking and sewing. Set against the backdrop of Sudbury’s pulp-and-paper industry Herranen began working with local woods and since then has developed into more exotic varieties such as banana wood, adding seemingly endless depth to each piece.

Each selection of wood is paired with printed fabrics arranged in blocking and quilted patterns and fused together using layers of resin to create formalist compositions. In this way Herranen’s work is as distinctively high-art as it is handcrafted.
