Winnipeg, Manitoba – March 20, 2014 – Gurevich Fine Art is pleased to announce Aganetha Dyck has joined the gallery. Aganetha Dyck is famous for her collaborations with honeybees. She is a Canadian artist whose career spans four decades with exhibitions in The Netherlands, France, Britain, the USA and throughout Canada. Dyck has been the recipient the Manitoba Arts Award of Distinction, the Canada Council's Governor General's Award for visual and media arts, Spotlight on 40 years:  Artworks from the Canada Council Art Bank and  Art City Star Award.

Dyck’s profound interest in environmental issues led her continued research into the world of the honeybees, specifically the fragile yet essential link that exists between humans and bees.

“The results, shaped by Dyck, are every bit fantastical as they are disturbing. Ordinary facets of human life mingle with the natural constructs of an insect's world, leaving the viewer with an unsettling sense of time and human existence.” (Huffington Post, 2014)

"My ongoing research asks questions regarding the ramifications all living beings would experience should honey bees disappear from earth," explains Dyck.

Her relationship with the bees have produced sculptural modifications of ice skates, drawings and porcelain statues that could never have been created without this partnership. Dyck places her chosen media inside the man-made hive. The bees slowly enhance each object with an elegant wax coating and honeycomb, creating these unorthodox pieces. It is a collaborative process which is built over several seasons. They often take years to reach the point where both partners are satisfied. Working with the guidence of a beekeeper and scientist Dyck ensures that none of the bees are harmed and their homes are never damaged.

Dyck’s work has been met with critical acclaim in COMPLEX ART+ DESIGNDeMilked,Colossal and Canadian Art as well as mainstream recognition in Huffington Postio9 and The Globe & Mail.
