Gurevich Fine Art Welcomes Bette Woodland

Gurevich Fine Art Welcomes Artist Bette Woodland

Winnipeg, Manitoba – November 14, 2013 –  Gurevich Fine Art is pleased to announce that award winning artist Bette Woodland has joined the gallery. Woodland is a Winnipeg based artist who has exhibited her work for the past 30 years in Winnipeg, Calgary, Montreal and Toronto. Her paintings and monotypes are included in many private and corporate collections across the country.

Woodland's figurative and landscape work captures fleeting moments. The paintings begin with a response to a particular experience of the landscape, figure or still life. Both familiar and timeless; her paintings and monotypes evolve intuitively, guided by a refined understanding of light which she uses to reveal her subjects.

"My work is engaged with the transformative power of light,” explains Woodland. “It intensifies experience and lifts the ordinary towards the transcendent." With a multitude of subject matter, light has been a constant preoccupation. Summer evenings provide her favourite kind of lighting: warm and intense. By working from photographs, Woodland is able to use this transitory light to describe her subjects and give expression to their emotions.
